Sugar Bowl # 76, Truly Scrumptious # 72 and Sugar Nellie (Facebook)

Loved the colour combination on the Sugar Nellie challenge on Facebook this week, so thought I would combine it with The Sugar Bowl Challenge too.

This was a very quick card and I am really pleased as I eventually tried paper piecing.  Took me long enough to try it and now I can't wait to try it again.  I paper pieced the dress but made a mistake, I cut off the little bits at the tights by mistake.  I coloured it hoping you wouldn't notice but it is slightly lighter and my eldest daughter suggested it could act like a petticoat. A suggestion from a daughter who doesn't like crafting.  Maybe I am winning her over.

I am entering my card into three challenges :-

Sugar Bowl # 76 - Follow Sketch with optional theme of paper piecing
Truly Scrumptious # 72 - Something Forgotten (Image) - (second entry)
Sugar Nellie - Facebook - Orange and Green

I ran out of pearls for the inside but I think it works ol.

Sugar Bowl # 67, Truly Scrumptious # 65, A Gem of a Challenge # 29

Finally got some crafting time.

I have to apologise for the lack of posts and not being able to visit all your blogs over the past few weeks.  Life has just been really busy, getting the girls ready for school with uniforms, etc., doing hubby's bookwork and vat and then we went to Portugal from 22 Aug - 1 Sep. Then the girls went back to school the next day and it takes a week or two to get used to the routine again and get caught up with bookwork, etc.  Before we went on holiday Shannon got her 'AS' results and had her career appointment at school and this is now her last year. She is doing French, Spanish and English Literature for 'A' level.  She also turned 18 when we were on holidays. Seems like only yesterday she started P1.

Anyway onto my card :-

I am entering my card into three challenges :-

Sugar Bowl # 67 - Follow Sketch
Truly Scrumptious # 65 - Decorate the inside of your card
A Gem of a Challenge # 29 - Picture Inspiration

Coloured with Pro Markers - (couldn't get the colours with the distress inks and I had a packet of pro markers which I have never used, so tried them, but not sure.  Never liked colouring with felt tips, always preferred pencils and although it was quicker than inks, think I need to practice a lot more)
Sentiment - Free with magazine

Here are a couple of holiday photographs.  I only got a chance to look at these this evening too.

Went to Zoomarine on the Saturday for Shannon's birthday and then went to the Sand Fiesa, which was amazing, will show you those photos later.

This was taken at the promenade in front of our apartment,

These are our apartments.  They were really nice.  The one we stayed in belongs to a friend of ours and he only took possession at Christmas.  The only downside to the apartments was that there was no communal pool, so the girls didn't get to make friends.  Also as the resort, Olhao, isn't a commercialised resort they had limited wifi connections, so no facebook for the girls.  Eventually found out that the hotel beside us had a computer room and the girls were able to buy internet cards each evening. Problem solved.

Thanks for popping by and your comments are always very much appreciated.  I hope to get round this week to visit everyone and catch up with what is new.

P.S. Forgot to say that Hollie has set up her own blog although she hasn't had much time to craft either.  She had made a card for the Simon Says Stamp summer challenge and wanted to put it on a blog of her own rather than on mine.  Hopefully she will get another card made this weekend. http://holliescraftingblog.blogspot.com/

Thought I would share a few photographs that I took at Belfast Zoo on Sunday.

Sophie with a bearded dragon lizard.  She was scared when it started to walk up her arms.

Shannon holding the same lizard

Hollie sitting on the wooden carved spider.

They were also letting you hold a tarantula spider and a snake but the girls or us weren't brave enought for that.

Couldn't believe how quickly they ate their lettuce, definitely put my girls to shame as they are very slow and picky eaters.

Thanks for popping by, it is much appreciated and sorry for the long post.

Truly Scrumptious # 52, A Spoonfull of Sugar # 142 and Simon Says Stamp

Very wet and cold here today with the forecast for more snow. Where did spring go, was nice for a few days.

Not happy with the way this card photographed.  The layout, colours and image are fine but the colours in the image have photographed a lot lighter than they are on the card. The brown is a little lighter, but not that much, as it was my darkest brown in the distress inks that I used.  Think I may have to go and get a darker brown if there is one.

I am entering my card into three challenges:-

Truly Scrumptous # 52 - Sketch by Mandy
A Spoonfull of Sugar # 142 - Vintage/Shabby theme (image)

Truly Scrumptious # 50

Started this on Friday night after tea before getting Shannon from work at 9pm and Sophie from her friends at 9.30pm and then thought I could make two of these cards and they would do for anniversary cards for our parents.  So got them finished last night.
My mum and dad's 44th anniversary is on the 25th March and hubby's mum and dad's 45th anniversary is on the 17th March (St Patrick's Day).
I have wanted to use this image but didn't know what for and this seemed appropriate.  Although hubby thought I was maybe pushing it a bit and telling them they were "old."
I wish I had got this image two  years ago as it would have suited hubby's grandparents better.  They were 94 and 97 when they passed away and this image would have suited them so well.

I am only entering my card into one challenge this time :-
Truly Scrumptious # 50 - A Sketch

I have left the message inside blank as I am looking on the internet for a nice anniversary quote or sentiment to add.

Thanks for popping by and visiting.  Your comments are very much appreciated.  Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Took Hollie to the cinema this afternoon to see Disney's Tangled.  Was very good although I cried at the end. Yes, I even cry at Disney films. Shannon and Sophie went to see A Little Bit of Heaven, I think that is what it is called and when Shannon came out, you knew she had been crying and Sophie said she cried throughout the film. Both said it was a very good film and they enjoyed it.

Must go and get the dinner started as hubby has been working in the new shop to try and get it ready for opening in about a weeks time.  Still getting nowhere with the loss assessors so we have contacted our insurance company directly to try and get it sorted.

Papertake Weekly, Stampavie and More # 125 and Truly Scrumptious # 49

Just a quick post from me today.  Really need to get sorted before I go for my daughter Sophie's parent interviews today at 4 - 6.30pm.  Went to see Alexandra Burke in concert at The Waterfront in Belfast on Tuesday night.  Not really my type of music but Sophie and her friend wanted to go and then Hollie said she would like to go, so I took them up.  Pity you have to drive 60 miles there and back and especially on a school night.  Was a good concert and they enjoyed it so that was the main thing.

Anyway I am entering my card into three challenges this time :-

Papertake Weekly - Ribbons and Pearls
Stampavie and More # 125 - Follow Sketch (first time entering this challenge)
Truly Scrumptious # 49 - Colour Combination - Brown, Green and Pink

Enjoyed working with this sketch and loved the colours.

Truly Scrumptious # 48 and Cute Card Thursday # 146

Thought I would take a little bit of time out this morning and make a card.  Have been busy cleaning since the girls went back to school and have just the kitchen and utility to do.  Always like to give the house a really good clean after Christmas and do out wardrobes, move furniture etc., makes it feel cleaner. I know I am sad and could have been making cards instead.

Anyway the card I made, I am entering into two challenges :-

Truly Scrumptious # 48 - Follow Sketch and Optional Theme - Dreaming of Summer
Cute Card Thursday # 146 - Out with the Old (use old stash)

Cardblank - Craftwork Cards
Patterned Paper, Cardstock and Ric-Rac - Doodlebug
Gems - Mei Flower
Image - Sugar Nellie
Coloured with Distress Inks (managed to get a few re-inkers yesterday)
Woodware Punch
Martha Stewart Punch
Sentiment - Molly Blloms - free with magazine

I have had these Doodlebug papers and cardstock for a couple of years and still had some left over from scrapbooking.  The Daisy image was one of the first images I bought last year.  Thought this would suit Cute Card Thursday's  challenge.  Daisy also suited Truly Scrumptious's challenge for Dreaming of Summer.  Think we are all dreaming of summer with the amount of snow, etc. we have had this winter.

Update on the shop.  Got our insurance broker to contact the loss adjusters as we were getting nowhere.  Things are progressing a little further but still not in our premises yet.  May take a couple more weeks.

Hope you are all well and getting some crafting done.  Thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post and I would like to say hello to my new followers.  It is very much appreciated.

Truly Scrumptious # 44 and Flutter By Wednesday # 129

Got a chance to make another card last night.  Hubby now has "Man Flu" and says he got it from me, although I am now feeling a lot better.
I am entering my card into two challenges :-
Truly Scrumptious # 44 - Follow sketch and optional theme of petals, pearls or pins.  I have used a few flowers as I don't have any pearls or pins (when I had completed the card, I realised I had stuck everything done wrong, so this means the sketch was rotated, so the card opens up rather than out) and
Flutter By Wednesday # 129 - Open theme but use a fairy, butterfly or angel. I used fairies and there is a little butterfly on the sentiment too.

I got this stamp this week.  It wouldn't have been a usual choice for me as I am not really into fairies or angels. I got it free when I purchased a couple of stamps from Funkykits (Sugar Nellie). So thought I would use it for these challenges.  Was nice to colour but quite intricate in places.

Carblank - Craftwork Cards
Cardstock - Paper Mill
Patterned Paper - Cosmo Cricket (DeLovely)
Image - Sugar Nellie
Coloured with Distress Inks (also shaded a little blue and green on the image, don't think it worked too well)

Brads - Doodlebug
Sentiment - Elzybells

Thanks for popping by. Hope you are having a nice weekend whatever you are doing.  I hope to make another card tonight while watching the X-Factor.  I am not really enjoying it this year but you think you are missing something if you don't watch it.  Although I have to take Sophie to the cinema and collect her later and leave her friend home and collect Shannon from work.

Truly Scrumptious # 34 and Cute Card Thursday # 134

Got another card made last night but am only posting it now as I was watching craft day on QVC and doing some baking.  Felt guilty watching it and thought I had better do something as well. Wasn't that impressed with it really, I have seen better shows. Anyway I am entering my card into two challenges - Truly Scrumptious - Follow Sketch and make an easel card (yes I made another calendar card) and Cute Card Thursday - What's Buggin' You - Use a bug, butterfly etc on your card.

Truly Scrumptious, Pollycraft Monday Challenge and Lily of the Valley

Well I did manage to fit in a card last night.  Two cards in two days -  its about time I got a bit more crafting done. My eldest daughter decided she would go to an 18th birthday party after she finished work, so therefore it was a late night for me.  Normally I would be in bed around 10pm most nights.  She wasn't too late, it was about 12.15am that I had to collect her as she was tired.  She had already done a beach walk during school hours, which they do every year to support local charities, then some homework, then work from 6 - 9.30 pm and then the party.  Anyway onto my card, before I have to see what the plans are for today and who needs taken where and when.
I am entering my card into three challenges - Truly Scrumptious # 41 - Follow Sketch with optional theme of blue and green.  I know they say blue and green should never be seen but I love this colour combination. Pollycraft Monday Challenge # 62 - Cute and Cuddly and Lily of the Valley # 66 - Untraditional Christmas (I know I have coloured the envelope and the bird's breast red, so hope it will still count).

Truly Scrumptious # 38, Cute Card Thursday # 125 and Totally Gorjuss #43

I have made this card for three challenges and hope it fits in with them all ok.  The first is Truly Scrumptious - Follow sketch with the optional theme of Golden Oldie.  I don't really have any old stamps as cardmaking is only new to me, but this would have been another one of the first stamps I would have purchased. The second challenge is for Cute Card Thursday - Theme of trees and/or leaves - this is one of only two similar stamps I have with a tree on it and the third challenge is Totally Gorjuss - Colour Aqua.  I have had these papers for a few years for scrapbooking and never used them as never seemed to have the right photograph for them.  As the paper wasn't double-sided I think I would like a little gem for the folded corner, but don't have any in these colours, so will add one later.
Cardstock - Doodlebug
Patterned Paper - Doodlebug
Image - Pink Gem
Coloured with Distress Inks
Ribbon - Doodlebug
Sentiment - Free with magazine
Cardblank - Craftwork Cards - Normally I just would cut my cardstock to size and make a card, but have seen quite a few people  use these card blanks, so thought I would give them a try.  They are really sturdy and come with matching envelopes, which is good, as quiet a few of my earlier cards, I can't get envelopes to fit.  6 x 6 is just too small and 8 x 8 is too big.

Thanks for popping by and your comments are much appreciated.

Truly Scrumptious Challenge 37 and Winter Wonderland

I have made this card for two challenges, although I haven't made my mind up yet if I like it or not.  The first challenge is Truly Scrumptious Challenge 37 to follow a sketch, with the optional theme of something recycled and the second challenge is Winter Wonderland which is to use no designer papers.
Cardstock - Die Cuts with a View, Bazzill and Core'dinations
Cuttlebug Snowflakes Embossing Folder
Ribbon recycled from a gift bag
Image from Little Claire Designs
Coloured with Distress Inks
I have sanded the core'dinations cardstock to reveal a lighter shade of blue, which is quite nice.  I am not really into ribbon and bows on my cards, however, I do like them on other peoples cards as they seem to be able to use them better.  Maybe I just don't have the right types of ribbon.
Thanks for visiting, I do appreciate it.

Truly Scrumptious Challenge 36

This is a card I have made for the Truly Scrumptious Challenge 36, with the optional theme of  'How Does Your Garden Grow.'
I started off thinking on summer colours, like pink, yellow and orange as it was a garden theme, but when I went to get my papers, I came across these papers from Doodlebug , that had embellishments to match.  So quick colour change, picked a summery image and  it all seemed to fall in place for a change.

Thanks for popping by and have a nice weekend.  Hope the weather is better wherever you are, as we have had a very wet weekend so far and it is a Bank Holiday on Monday.

Truly Scrumptious Challenge 35 - Sharon's Sketch

Hi. Hope you all had a lovely weekend.  We took the girls to The American Folk Park in Omagh yesterday.  Weather was not too bad, until they were about to put on their 4th July skirmish re-enacting the battle of 1812 and then it started raining.  We had a nice day and enjoyed ourselves as we haven't been there for a couple of years. Made this card when I came home while watching a dvd called Did you hear about the Morgan's.
My card is for the Truly Scrumptious Challenge 35 - A sketch by Sharon with the optional theme of Strawberries and Cream.  I didn't use the optional theme as I had no red and white paper, other than Christmas paper and I had no Christmas stamps to  use with it, so picked these colours instead and I also turned the sketch on its side as my image was slightly larger. Hope this ok.

Truly Scrumptious Challenge 34

This is a card I made over the weekend for the Truly Scrumptious Challenge 34, with optional theme of check or gingham. Had a little bit of free time on Saturday evening as my husband was away for the weekend at the Moto GP at  Silverstone.  Was at my neighbour's son's wedding party on Friday night, had to work for my husband on Saturday and then out for tea with my mum and dad last night.  Busy but nice.
Anyway my card details are:
Pink cardstock, papers, adhesive flower strip and photocorners -Doodlebug
White and Green cardstock - Paper Mill
Image - Chloe with Kitten - Pink Gem
Coloured with Papermania Watercolour Pencils (didn't think the distress inks were bright enough)
Nestabilities
Best Wishes Stamp free with magazine (think they were Papermania)

I stamped Best Wishes twice as the photo corners were in opposite corners and thought it finished off the right hand corner. Really liked the sketch but won't be entering it into the challenge this time as still haven't had time to figure out the linking.  Will still follow sketches and make cards just for practice though.
Thanks for visiting and happy crafting. Donna

Truly Scrumptious Challenge 32

I started off making a card and ended up with a door hanger for my youngest daughter's room.  As I said in a previous post, I never end up with what I have in mind at the beginning.
Anyway, I stamped my image, which is called Skipping Milly from Pink Gem Designs.  I then used my Big Scalloped Circles Nestabilities. However, I had in mind to use my fiskars cutter and templates to cut the other circles, but the largest was the same size as the nestability.  So I started to raid my cupboards for plates, bowls, glasses etc., until I got the sizes that I needed.  My card was to be blue and green, but after a few attempts at cutting, I didn't have enough left, so changed my colours to a darker blue and dark pink.  This was really nice as well, but when I had it all set up ready for glueing, I realised I wouldn't have a card big enough to attach it to.  Time to start again.  I then came up with idea of the door plaque.  Then had to change my colours as my youngest daughter's room is pink and yellow for Little Miss Sunshine.  So I recut all my circles again and then coloured my image.  Next was to mount all of this onto some chipboard, but you guessed right, didn't have any pieces that were big enough.  Then I remembered I had some mountboard that was given to me a couple of years ago, but I never used it.  So glad I kept it.  I cut this to size and covered  it with cardstock.  Yellow cardstock is Bazzill and Pink cardstock is Die Cuts with a View.  Then I punched holes with my crop-a-dile and attached dovecraft ribbon which I purchased at The Paper Mill Shop.  Flowers are punched with a woodware punch and brads are doodlebug. Stickers for Hollie's room are also Doodlebug.  My printer has ran out of ink, so had to handwrite the Do Not Disturb, my writing was not very good, so my oldest daughter tried it. Will probably change this when my printer is re-inked again.  I had thought of writing Girls Only or Please Knock, but it was my youngest daughter suggested do not disturb when she saw what I was making, when she came home from school. She was really pleased with the plaque.  I also thought afterwards how appropriate the image was, as my youngest daughter loves to skip all the time.  I followed the sketch, but don't know if making something else other than a card is ok.  Anyway, thanks for looking and have a nice day.  Hope the sun is still shining where you are.  Happy crafting.

Truly Scrumptious Challenge 31 - Hidden Message

Hi
This is a card that I made for the Truly Scrumptious Challenge 31.  The theme was to have a hidden message that pulls out on a tag.

Cardstock is Bazzill
Papers, embellishments and mini clipboard are Rob and Bob Studio
Green Ribbon from the Birthday Girl range from Doodlebug
Pink Ribbon from Dovecraft
Spellbinders - Large Classic Scalloped Rectangles
Image - Pink Gem Designs - Chloe with Flowers
Coloured with Distress Inks

The little mini clipboard was covered with paper and a Happy Birthday ribbon attached around it and the rest of it was left blank for the recipients name and age , i.e. Hollie 9 Today.

Still haven't mastered the link to the actual post yet, but hope to do so soon.
Thanks for visiting and have a nice weekend.
